Fermentation process

The targeted modification of organic substances with the help of microorganisms is a cultural asset of mankind dating back thousands of years. Fermentation makes it possible to produce products with new properties from natural raw materials. Examples include the production of yoghurt, cheese, beer, wine, sourdough bread and soy sauce. Fermentation also plays a central role in modern biotechnology: penicillin, citric acid, lactic acid, enzymes, amino acids, insulin or sweeteners such as xylitol or erythritol are produced by fermentation processes.

amixon® has been developing and producing precision mixers and silo mixers for over 40 years, some of which are also used as fermenters - especially for highly viscous or semi-solid fermentation media. Batch sizes range from a few litres to 100 m³. The mixers are hygienic, fully temperature-controlled and designed for particularly gentle, three-dimensional circulation - at minimum speed and maximum homogeneity.

The fermenters are operated with targeted gassing. Optionally, the fermenters (designed as synthesis reactors) can also be operated with controlled system pressures. From vacuum to overpressure up to 6 bar.

Typical areas of application for amixon® technology in fermentation are

  • Production of plant-based meat alternatives (e.g. based on fermented soya or pea proteins)
  • Fermentative production of biopolymers such as polylactic acid (PLA)
  • Production of vitamins (e.g. B12, riboflavin)
  • Production of organic acids such as citric acid or succinic acid
  • Production of probiotic feed additives
  • Biotechnological conversion of residual materials into biogas or bioethanol
  • Special advantages of amixon® equipment in fermentation processes:
  • Even highly viscous, sticky or semi-solid products can be completely discharged.
  • The mixer can be automatically cleaned (CIP) and sterilised (SIP).
  • The particularly gentle and uniform mixing preserves the activity of the microorganisms
  • Flexible temperature control for precise process control

Fermentation processes with amixon® technology stand for precision, efficiency and hygienic safety at the highest level.
