high-pressure shear homogeniser
Image from the manufacturer: www.homogenisingsystems.com. A high-pressure shear homogeniser, or high-pressure homogeniser for short, is a continuously operating device for producing finely dispersed emulsions and suspensions. The liquid is forced through a narrow homogenising valve at very high pressure. This generates intense shear forces, turbulence and cavitation. In this way, droplets and particles can be broken down to the submicron or nano range.
Typical areas of application are the food and beverage industry (e.g. milk and fat emulsions), pharmaceuticals and biotechnology (e.g. lipid nanoparticles, parenteral formulations, cell disruption) and fine chemicals.
