What advantages does a SpherHelics® hollow-sphere mixer type SH offer for fragile agglomerates?

The SpherHelics® hollow-sphere mixer type SH combines a spherical, edge-free mixing chamber with a helical mixing tool. This makes it particularly well suited to the gentle processing of fragile agglomerates, where particle structure, grain shape and functionality are to be preserved as far as possible.

Gentle mixing movement through the geometry

The spherical mixing chamber without corners and edges reduces local peaks of stress and minimises accumulations of material. This is particularly advantageous with sensitive products, because less friction, abrasion and particle breakage can occur.

The product flow follows a controlled three-dimensional restratification; dead zones are thereby greatly reduced and the mix remains in comparatively calm movement.

Helical tool for controlled restratification

The helical mixing tool circulates the material purposefully and ensures an even distribution within the vessel. Restratification takes place through controlled displacement and not through high mechanical stress.

The SpherHelics® mixer can be operated gently or with targeted deagglomeration, depending on the product and the desired final state.

Short mixing times, low stress

An important advantage is the combination of short mixing times and low energy introduction. The cumulative mechanical stress thereby falls, which additionally protects fragile agglomerates.

Mixing quality is achieved after comparatively few revolutions; at the same time, liquid additions can be distributed rapidly and precisely.

Flexible fill levels and broad product suitability

Type SH works with high mixing quality even at low fill levels. That is particularly helpful where sensitive products are processed only in small or changing quantities.

The mixer is suitable not only for dry products but also for moist, pasty and even suspended products.

Good dischargeability and hygiene

For fragile agglomerates, discharge is also important: the less product remains in the mixing chamber, the lower the risk of subsequent mechanical stress and product losses. The SpherHelics® design is laid out for good residual discharge and easy cleaning.

That is particularly relevant in pharmaceutical, food and fine chemical applications, where high hygiene and reproducibility requirements apply.

Overall advantage for fragile agglomerates

The essential advantage of the SpherHelics® hollow-sphere mixer type SH lies in the combination of gentle product guidance, high mixing quality, short mixing times and good dischargeability. For fragile agglomerates this means: less abrasion, less breakage and a stable, reproducible product quality.

The SpherHelics® hollow-sphere mixer SH: the amixon® answer to fragile agglomerates

The SpherHelics® hollow-sphere mixer type SH from amixon® GmbH combines a spherical, edge-free mixing chamber with a genuine amixon® helical precision mixing tool. Fragile agglomerates are thereby moved and homogenised particularly gently and, where required, also deagglomerated in a targeted manner.

Geometry against particle breakage

The hollow-sphere shape eliminates corners, edges and crushing zones by design. This reduces local peaks of stress, build-up and unnecessary abrasion, an essential advantage for sensitive particles whose grain structure is to be preserved.

Unlike many conventional hollow-sphere mixers, amixon® relies not on modified anchor agitators but on a spiral or helical conveying geometry with progressive pitch. The mixes are thereby not merely displaced but purposefully loosened and gently conveyed upwards.

Gentleness as a system property

The SpherHelics® is usually operated at low speed; depending on the size, the circumferential speed is adjustable within the range of approximately 0.8 to 3.5 m/s.

Spray-dried powders, fluid-bed granules, instant agglomerates and coatings thereby largely retain their structure. Where the recipe requires it, the same apparatus can work with targeted deagglomeration by means of a switchable cutting rotor, so intensity is a process choice rather than a rigid limit of the design.

Why the amixon® helical tool works better

Many hollow-sphere mixers from other manufacturers use modified anchor agitators. These can indeed mix, but they frequently convey the product more by displacement and pushing than by a defined, progressive restratification.

amixon®, by contrast, relies on mixing tools with helical geometry and, depending on the design, on finely matched SinConcave® and SinConvex® tools as well as MultiPlane®-guided flow. The result is a three-dimensional, even restratification of the product with a short mixing time, low energy demand and a high degree of protection for the particle structure.

More than just mixing: discharge and cleaning

A further advantage of the SH is the possibility of almost complete discharge with ComDisc® tools. These sweep the base during the final discharge phase and convey the product practically completely out of the mixing chamber.

Together with the large, dead-space-free Clever-Cut® inspection door and the OmgaSeal® seal, cleaning and inspection become considerably more ergonomic and hygienically reliable.

For particularly sensitive products

The SH is particularly suitable for fragile agglomerates, spray-dried products, instant structures, moist and pasty materials as well as suspensions.

Where the mixture is to stay cold and sensitive particle structures have to be preserved, the combination of low rotational speed, helical conveying and very good dischargeability is a clear advantage.
