Quality losses

Quality losses refer to deviations of a product from defined quality requirements or target properties. They manifest themselves, for example, in altered composition, insufficient homogeneity, undesirable physical properties or sensory deviations. Quality losses can occur during manufacture as well as during storage or further processing.

In process engineering, quality losses are frequently caused by inadequate process control, inhomogeneous mixing, incorrect temperature or time profiles, product carry-over, contamination or an unsuitable apparatus design. Particularly in powder and bulk material processes, even minor deviations can cause problems.
