Total flow
Total flow-through denotes the complete flow-through of an apparatus or volume. All particles or fluid regions are in motion. There are no stagnant zones or dead spaces. Each particle repeatedly passes through the main circulation loop and constantly changes its neighbors.
In bulk solids and process engineering, total flow-through is a desired target state. A three-dimensional, space-filling flow is typical of amixon® equipment. The product is gently conveyed upward along the vessel periphery and falls back down due to gravity in the area of the mixing shaft.
Total flow-through is sought in mixers, synthesis reactors, and vacuum contact dryers. It improves mass transfer, heat transfer, and reaction kinetics.
