Reaction kinetics
Reaction kinetics describes not only the reaction rate, but also how it depends on state variables and mechanisms. In heterogeneous systems, chemical kinetics and mass transfer also interact.
It describes the rate at which chemical or physicochemical reactions proceed, as well as their dependence on the respective process conditions. It indicates how quickly reactants are converted and products formed, and how the reaction rate changes over time.
Reaction kinetics is influenced, amongst other things, by temperature, concentration, pressure, residence time, mixing, energy input and catalytic effects. In heterogeneous systems, such as in solid-state, powder or multiphase reactions, mass transfer, phase boundaries, particle contact, diffusion and the available surface area also play a decisive role.
