nozzle
A nozzle is a tubular connection on a vessel, mixer or reactor. It can serve as an inlet, outlet or measurement port. Nozzles are used for solids, liquids, gases or instrumentation.
They can be welded, flanged or bolted. They are available in various nominal sizes and to different standards. Typical applications include filling, emptying, venting, pressure measurement and sampling.
In exceptional cases, nozzles may also be square, oval or rectangular in shape. Such special geometries are used when large cross-sections, specific flow profiles or structural constraints so require. Typical applications include bulk material outlets, access hatches and connections to conveyor systems.
When designing a connection, factors such as pressure, temperature, compatibility with the medium and hygiene standards are taken into account. In bulk material handling, connections are often combined with valves, flaps or dosing systems.
