Dust-free
‘Dust-free’ refers to a state in which there are no dust emissions, or only negligible amounts. In practice, ‘dust-free’ generally means that dust emissions are technically controlled to remain below defined limits.
Dust-free conditions are achieved through closed systems, extraction systems, filters, enclosures or inerting. Particle size, moisture content and granule structure also influence the tendency to generate dust. Spherical or coarse-grained particles produce less dust than fine, angular powders.
Dust-free processes improve workplace safety and reduce product losses. They are important for hygiene, product quality and explosion protection. In many industries, low-dust or dust-free processes are a regulatory requirement.
