SinConcave® and SinConvex® – Mixing tools for highest mixing quality and complete emptying
Precise geometry for perfect mixing results
Standard helix, SinConcave® and SinConvex® - Three geometries – one goal: the perfect mix. With SinConcave® and SinConvex®, amixon® has created two specially developed mixing tool geometries that combine the highest mixing quality with exceptional residue-free discharge. Both technologies are the result of decades of experience in precision mixing technology and were specifically developed for demanding applications in the pharmaceutical, food, and specialty chemical industries.
When the mixing tool rotates around a vertical or inclined axis, the product is gently conveyed upwards along the container wall. In the center, it flows back down in a controlled manner. An intense, three-dimensional exchange occurs between these main flows. Every particle touches every other, creating a stochastic ideal distribution. The prerequisite for a mixing quality that can usually not be surpassed in practice.
Geometry tailored to product and process
SinConcave® and SinConvex® mixing helixes are individually designed for the specific mixing task. Based on over 40 years of experience, amixon® precisely adjusts the geometry to product properties, fill levels, and process requirements.
Three geometric parameters are crucial:
- α (Alpha) – the pitch of the mixing helix,
- β (Beta) – the tangential tilt of the helix,
- ε (Epsilon) – the resulting slope angle that allows the mix to flow downward safely and without segregation.
This fine-tuning takes into account, among other things, self-cleaning, complete emptying, flexible operation with varying fill levels, and efficiency in automatic wet cleaning.
Inclined spirals for more efficiency and minimal residues
A key feature of SinConcave® and SinConvex® is the targeted inclination of the conveying spirals inward or outward. Studies and many years of practical experience show that this geometry significantly improves both mixing efficiency and residual discharge.
An example from industrial application: In a cylindrical amixon® mixer with a batch volume of 2 m³ for the production of dry milk baby food, only 240 grams of product remain in the mixer after discharge. This corresponds to a residual discharge rate of 99.983%.
SinConcave® – Gravity optimally utilized
In the SinConcave® geometry, the mixing spirals are inclined concavely towards the mixing axis. The pitch of the helix is complemented by the tilt, so that the entire mixing tool consists of steeply inclined surfaces.
Freely flowing mixing materials slide downwards due to the effect of gravity without segregation. At the same time, the characteristic helical shape is retained, which is crucial for high mixing efficiency. With SinConcave®, very high residual emptying rates of up to 99.997% can be achieved.
SinConvex® – optimal balance of mixing and discharge
In SinConvex®, the coils are designed to be convex to the mixer axis. This geometry ensures particularly uniform product movement along the mixing chamber wall and also supports a very high residual emptying. SinConvex® is particularly suitable for processes where, in addition to excellent mixing quality, a robust, process-stable emptying is required.
Self-cleaning and hygienic design
SinConcave® and SinConvex® mixing paddles discharge the mixed material almost completely from the mixer. This creates a pronounced self-cleaning effect, which significantly reduces the manual cleaning effort and supports hygienic production conditions.
The mixing tools are seamlessly welded and ground. Drive and bearing are exclusively from above. The shaft passage is equipped with a lip seal, which can be split on request and allows for quick, maintenance-friendly replacement.
Retrofit and combinable
SinConcave® and SinConvex® are suitable for both new installations and the retrofit of existing amixon® mixers. The conversion can usually be carried out on-site without dismantling the mixer.
In combination with ComDisc® discharge tools, very high residual discharge rates can also be achieved with flat-bottom mixers.
Conclusion
SinConcave® and SinConvex® represent precisely designed mixing tools that combine the highest mixing quality with exceptional complete discharge. They enhance yield, process safety, and hygiene and are a central component of amixon® precision mixing technology.
