Active ingredient chemicals
Active ingredients are chemical substances that exert a defined technical, chemical, or biological effect in a product. They constitute the functionally active component of a formulation and differ from auxiliary or carrier substances. In the chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and construction industries, active ingredients perform central tasks. They influence reactivity, stability, viscosity, solubility, shelf life, or biological activity. They are often present only in low concentrations, yet they significantly influence product properties.
Active ingredients are rarely used as pure substances. In practice, they are metered, premixed, coated, or applied to carrier materials. A homogeneous distribution is crucial to ensure a uniform effect in the final product.
The processing of active ingredients places high demands on mixing and process technology. Sensitivity to temperature, humidity, or shear must be taken into account. Aspects such as dusting tendency, loss of active ingredient, or cross-contamination also play an important role. In amixon® mixers, reactors, and dryers, active ingredients are specifically incorporated, activated, or stabilized.
