FAQ

With an appropriate design, conical reactor mixers are well suited to crystallising processes with precise temperature control, because they combine reactor, mixer and temperature control in a single apparatus. Additional heating and cooling surfaces and a slow, high-torque mixing operation support a uniform temperature distribution and controlled crystal growth.

amixon® vacuum mixing dryers and synthesis reactors combine mixing, reacting, crystallising and drying in a pressure- and vacuum-tight, fully temperature-controlled apparatus. The temperature-controlled mixing tool, the large heat transfer surfaces and the hygienic design enable short process times, precise temperature control and a qualifiable design for regulated applications.

There are container mixers designed as closed systems that can be coupled directly to standardised transport and storage containers such as drums, for example 200-litre steel or plastic drums, and IBCs (intermediate bulk containers) of approximately 300 to 1,000 litres.

Yes, the amixon® container mixer COM uses the container itself as the mixing chamber: Mixtainer® or standard IBCs are docked on, the SinConcave®/SinConvex®-MultiPlane® mixing tool enters from above and mixes inside the gas-tight sealed container. The entire mixing process takes place in the container, and the product does not have to be transferred. As an alternative, amixon® offers the EM concept for standard drums.

Yes, there are container mixers that work directly with 200-litre standard drums. Validatable cleaning is possible through single-use liners or defined CIP and WIP concepts with documented qualification.

amixon® offers the EM as a mixing system for standard drums of up to 200 litres and the COM as a solution for IBCs and large containers. Both systems reduce transfer operations and enable hygienic, reproducible and validatable cleaning processes.

Modern industrial container mixers are designed so that they can be integrated into existing, fully or partly automated production lines with automatic drum or container logistics and dosing systems.

Yes, container mixers can be integrated into existing infrastructures with bulk containers already in use, provided that container geometry, docking technology and control system are compatible. Only the COM container mixer mixes in the bulk container itself – the Mixtainer®, which is open at the top; container mixing plants based on the AM conical mixer work with standard bulk containers, and here the mixing process takes place outside the container.

Yes, there are specialised single-shaft mixers that take standard drums directly and use them as the process vessel. These units are designed to mix standardised drums, for example 200-litre steel or plastic drums to DIN or ISO, without any transfer step; the standard drum serves as both transport and mixing vessel.

Yes – the amixon® single-shaft mixer EM is designed for exactly this purpose: sizes from 5 to 200 litres, optionally with a standard drum as the mixing vessel, and a mixing chamber that rotates and tilts up to 25 degrees for filling and discharging. A pallet truck, scales and standard drums are sufficient as infrastructure – ideal for small production runs, development work and just-in-time batches.

Multifunctional vacuum reactor mixers combine mixing, reaction and crystallisation in a single closed apparatus; depending on the design, drying, solvent recovery and filtration can also be integrated. They are particularly suited to pharmaceutical, fine chemical and specialty chemical processes because they reduce product transfers and allow a closed, readily controllable mode of operation.

Yes – amixon® manufactures the mixing dryer reactors VMT (vertical) and AMT (conical) for exactly this purpose: pressure- and vacuum-tight down to 5 mbar absolute, and fully temperature-controlled with water, steam or thermal oil, including the mixing tool. Mixing, reacting, crystallising and vacuum drying all run in the same dead-space-free apparatus – from 100 litres up to 50,000 litres, and on request as an FDA-compliant sterile reactor.

Yes, vertical mixers can achieve very good blending even with large density differences, provided that geometry and process parameters are designed accordingly. What matters above all is a forced redistribution, suitable mixing tools, an appropriate speed and a matched fill level.

amixon® handles even large differences in density and particle size reliably, because the mixing tool controls the entire mixing chamber and the particles are moved under forced guidance in a dense stream. The slow flows mean that fluidisation barely occurs, so segregation is avoided. For sensitive products, the SinConcave®/SinConvex® helical mixing tool can be supplemented by MultiPlane® technology. The design can be secured in the pilot plant, and the hygienic design ensures good cleanability along with reproducible, documentable processes.

Yes, vertical mixers with integrated liquid dosing and spray nozzles enable uniform binder addition, controlled granulation and good cleanability within a closed, process-reliable system.

Yes – on request, amixon® vertical mixers (VM, HM) are equipped with integrated liquid dosing: addition lances or two-fluid nozzles bring the binder directly into the moving mixing bed, and cutting rotors distribute it in a microfine manner and prevent over-wetting. Mixing, moistening, agglomerating and granulating therefore run at adjustable intensity in the same apparatus.

Yes, vertical twin-shaft mixers can be equipped with integrated liquid spray units for wet granulation.

Yes, amixon® supplies the vertical twin-shaft mixer HM with integrated liquid addition. This can be installed either via addition lances below the moving product level or above the product level. Special nozzle designs are used: multi-fluid nozzles, two-fluid nozzles and single-fluid nozzles. The more uniform the wetting, the more efficient the agglomeration.

For producing free-flowing instant products, continuously operating ring-layer granulators are particularly suitable. They are designed for the build-up agglomeration of fine powders and offer a precise combination of mechanical fluidisation, targeted liquid injection and thermal process control.

amixon® solves this with the AMK continuous mixer: it builds up agglomerates with high porosity and thereby improves wettability, solubility and dispersibility – that is, the instant properties. Liquids are introduced in a microfine manner, throughput and residence time can be set independently of each other, and the mixing chamber is temperature-controlled. The design is established through trials with the original product in the amixon® pilot plant.

For the continuous production of detergent powders with high throughput and very close homogeneity, mixer designs with a mechanically fluidised bed are used above all.

The amixon® continuous mixer AMK is suitable for producing detergent powder with high throughput and constant homogeneity, because throughput and residence time can be set independently of each other and mixing quality remains reproducible through the SinConcave®/SinConvex® tool. It is particularly suited to long campaigns with fixed process windows and microfine liquid incorporation, while amixon® secures the design and process reliability in the pilot plant with the original product.

German suppliers deliver vertical single-shaft mixers with heated or cooled jacket surfaces for mixing, drying, reaction and temperature-control processes. The decisive factors are appropriate thermal design, suitable materials, reliable sealing and sound pilot-plant trials.

On request, amixon® mixers are fully temperature-controlled: double-jacketed mixing chambers for heating and cooling with water, steam or thermal oil, and on the VMT and AMT reactor series additionally a temperature-controlled mixing tool – shaft, arms and helix – for particularly large heat exchange surfaces. Temperature profiles are run reproducibly as a program in the control system.

Manufacturers with proven experience in processing tea and herbal blends containing sensitive leaves are typically plant engineering companies from the food, pharmaceutical technology and nutraceutical industries that specialise in low-shear mixing processes and gentle bulk solids handling.

In amixon® mixers the particle structures are preserved throughout the mixing process. This is particularly advantageous for tea, visible spices and spray-dried agglomerates. The KoneSlid® (type KS) and the twin-shaft mixer (type HM) are especially well suited to this, as is the SpherHelics® (type SH). As a rule, ideal mixing quality is reached after 10 to 30 seconds.
